Acerola Cherry "The Queen of Vitamin C"

Acelora cherry or "Acerola" is a kind of plants from Malpighiaceae family that has been generally known as "Acerola cherry" or "Barbados cherry". It is classified as large shrub-like plant with approximate height of 6 meters. It bears flowers and fruits in the form of inflorescences and cherry-like berries with approximate diameter ranged from 1.25-2.5 cm. Its cherry-like berries have thin rind with sweet and sour flavors due to high content of Vitamin C or ascorbic acid. However, its ripe fruits will be sweeter than unripe ones. It was found that 100 grams of ripe acelora cherry contain Vitamin C around 1,500-4,500 milligrams (that is higher than Vitamin C content in orange or lime around 50-100 times).
